HORROR, SCI-FI & MORE! PRESENTS ALL HALLOW'S EVE 3D: DAY 22 PICK!!!! DOUBLE CREATURE FEATURE WEEK!

DAY 22: BEHIND THIS MASK LURKS THE LIVING DEAD

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees), in seen walking into 1428 Elm Street. This was the address that Nancy lived in, in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).

When Leslie is applying his makeup while being interviewed about his target, the song playing in the background is the same as that heard at the end of The Shining (1980), where Jack Torrence appears in the photo: ''Midnight, The Stars and You,'' sung by Al Bowlly with the Ray Noble Orchestra, 1934.

Zelda Rubinstein's last movie.

Dead Alive

Peter Jackson, is a well-known aficionado of the original 1933 version of King Kong (1933). In the beginning of Braindead, the New Zealand Zoo official is stealing the rat monkey from Skull Island. That's Jackson's nod to Skull Island's more famous resident, King Kong. Jackson would 'return' to Skull Island for his 2005 remake of King Kong (2005).

The movie was finished under budget with NZ$45,000 remaining. Peter Jackson used it to spend two days shooting the park scene with Lionel and the baby Selwyn. He has gone on to say that it is his favorite scene.

300 liters of fake blood was used in the final scene of the film.

DAY 18: THE HOUSE ON THE HILL IS HAUNTED THEY SAY.....

The films opening was something of a jump scare gimmick, the total darkness accompanied by horrible noises echoing in a large movie theater would have been very terrifying, the effect is somewhat lost on a modern viewer watching the film on a television screen without the volume and scale to provide shock of theatrical sound and darkness.

William Castle had related the story of meeting Vincent Price on a day when Price had learned that he had been passed over for a part. Over coffee, Castle described the premise of this picture. Price liked the idea and it led to a two-picture collaboration, this and The Tingler (1959).

The large grosses for this film were noticed by Alfred Hitchcock. This led him to create his own low-budget horror film - Psycho (1960).

(1999 Remake)
Elizabeth Hurley was considered for the role of Evelyn Stockard-Price while Cindy Crawford was considered for the role of Melissa Margaret Marr.

Geoffrey Rush was never meant to look like Vincent Price (star of the original film House on Haunted Hill (1959)). The original screenplay described Stephen Price as a regular looking businessman. Rush didn't care for this, so he suggested that his character look like the film director John Waters. The director agreed to test this look out. After his transformation, he ended up looking so much like Vincent Price the director decided to keep the look.

Famke Janssen performed her own stunt when the glass ceiling breaks. It was extremely important for Janssen to remain where she was and very still, yet even with her basically glued to the spot, the shard hit with so much impact that it bounced her head off the table as you can see on close inspection of the scene.

HORROR, SCI-FI & MORE! PRESENTS ALL HALLOW'S EVE 3D: DAY 14 PICK!!!!

DAY 14: THE DEVIL'S FAVORITE FAMILY HAS ARRIVED....

To make Anjelica Huston's eyes look slanted like the original Morticia, the make-up artists had to attach strings with spirit gum to the outside corners of her eyes and anchor the strings on her head.

Originally the "Mamushka" scene was supposed to be longer, with a full song describing brotherly love, and both Gomez and Fester naming other famous brothers. Test screenings revealed that audiences felt this song brought the movie to a stand-still. The film shows an edited version with only Gomez and Fester dancing, and Gomez throwing the knives at Fester. The full song can be found on the motion picture soundtrack.

By the time this movie was made, all of the adult cast members from the original series had died except John Astin, who had played Gomez. Astin ironically also outlived the movie Gomez, Raul Julia, who died in 1994.

Tim Burton was originally set to direct. While Cher wanted to play the role of "Morticia" but Huston had landed the role.

HORROR, SCI-FI & MORE! PRESENTS ALL HALLOW'S EVE 3D: DAY 10 PICK!!!!

DAY 10: EVIL BEGETS EVIL

This was Christopher Lee's final appearance as Count Dracula in the Hammer "Dracula" series. However, he later reprised his role in the French comedy Dracula and Son (1976).

This was the final Hammer film in which both Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing appear.

Michael Coles reprises his role as Inspector Murray from Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972). Besides Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, he was the only actor to play the same character in more than one Hammer "Dracula" film.

Stephanie Beacham was intended to reprise her role as Jessica Van Helsing from Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972) but was unavailable.

Christopher Lee later claimed that, for his death scene, he had to tear his way through actual hawthorn bushes, shedding real blood on the sharp thorns.
