DAY 8: THIS IS A HOUSE WHERE NO ONE SHOULD LIVE
According to Fred Dekker, the script was originally inspired by Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983). After seeing that film, Dekker and his friends, which included Ethan Wiley, Steve Miner, and Shane Black, planned to make their own independent anthology movie on video. But the project was never completed. Dekker used the idea for his unproduced segment for this film.
The next door neighbor, Harold, is played by George Wendt, best known for his role as Norm on Cheers (1982). His on-screen best friend from Cheers, Cliff the mailman (played by John Ratzenberger), appears in the sequel to this film, House II: The Second Story (1987) as Bill Tanner, the electrician/adventurer.
Glenn Close and Sigourney Weaver were considered for the female lead role.
The For Sale sign at the beginning of the movie has the name of Craven Realty, perhaps a nod to Wes Craven, the legendary horror director.
