MEGA SHARK VS. KOLOSSUS (2015)

Mega Shark vs. Kolossus (2015)
Synopsis: In search of a new energy source, Russia accidentally reawakens the Kolossus - a giant robot doomsday device from the Cold War. At the same time, a new Mega Shark appears, threatening global security.

The Syfy channel has decided to counter Shark Week with it's own Sharknado week. Airing a new SyFy original every night leading up to the anticipated premiere of Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No. They started the week off with Mega Shark vs. Kolossus. Not a bad way to kick the week off as the Mega Shark series has been a pretty reliable staple in the SyFy programming.

Now as far as the Mega Shark goes, they have greatly improved on the CGI of his attacks. They are much more realistic than those they used on some of the other members of the series. Even with the improved CGI, this was definitely not the strongest showings in the series although it wasn't the worst either, Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus takes that one (my opinion).

I was a bit disappointed at the lack of the other half of the movie. After Kolossus was released from a hidden lab in the desert of Russia (yeah, I didn't know Russia had deserts either), he was very rarely seen throughout the remainder of the movie. The two didn't officially collide until the final 20 minutes of the movie. The fight didn't last very long and much of it was really hard to make out. The advantage of most of SyFy's movies are that they take place in tropical vacation spots which means the water is crystal clear. In this case, the location provides much darker and murkier waters. I guess I should give them credit for staying true to the location but it did make it difficult to enjoy the inevitable fight.

That being said, it was still an fun movie to watch for those like me that are into the ultra cheesy movies. It was a good way to start the week, and with awesome titles like Sharktopus vs. Whalewolf and Zombie Sharks waiting in the wings, this looks like it may end up being an awesome week.
