ONI PRESS TO RELEASE COMIC VERSION OF "SLEIGHT" BEFORE FILM'S RELEASE

From Oni Press, the publisher behind Scott Pilgrim, Whiteout and Invader ZIM among others, comes an exciting new comic book based on BH Tilt and WWE Studio’s much anticipated sci-fi thriller SLEIGHT, in theaters on April 28, 2017.   Written by Ryan Parrott (Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Batman: Gates of Gotham) and illustrated by Eisner and Harvey Award winner Rob Guillory (Chew, The Walking Dead).

"The film is a fantastic achievement and an evolution of a genre I love, so I was honored when I was asked to contribute. Considering its many influences, it just made sense to bring this story into the medium of comics,” said Parrott.  “With Rob's incredible artwork, the goal was to provide a glimpse of what's to come in the film while expanding the characters and the scope of the world. It was an amazing collaboration that I hope fans of the film will enjoy.”

The origin story is set in the years leading up to the events of the film which follows Bo, a young street magician left to care for his little sister Tina after their parents’ passing who turns to questionable activities to keep a roof over their heads. When he gets in too deep, his sister is kidnapped and he is forced to use his magic and brilliant mind to save her.

Guillory states, "SLEIGHT is a film dripping with visual style and heart-gripping characterization, so I felt that our job was to honor what JD Dillard created with this comic prequel. In a lot of ways, writer Ryan Parrot and I bring our own unique vision to the story, but our goal was to capture the spirit of SLEIGHT and do it justice. I think we did just that."

From the producer of GET OUT, SLEIGHT was directed by breakout filmmaker J.D. Dillard, and co-written with Alex Theurer, and features a diverse cast including Jacob Latimore, Dule Hill, Seychelle Gabriel, Storm Reid and Sasheer Zamata.
