DAVID LYNCH MENTORED VAMPIRE THRILLER, "LILITH'S AWAKENING" TO DEBUT AT DANCES WITH FILMS

David Lynch Mentored Vampire Thriller,
Lilith’s Awakening,
Premieres at Dances With Films

Class of 2015 alumna Monica Demes' award-winning thesis project, Lilith's Awakening, is a modern-day vampire film and is the first completed feature-length movie from the David Lynch MFA Program. The arthouse horror will have its world premiere at the Dances With Films festival, which showcases the edgiest modern independent cinema. Lilith’s Awakening will premiere at the prestigious TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, CA on Saturday June 11th at 11:45pm.
Lilith’s Awakening was developed and filmed in Fairfield Iowa, the location where Monica also counted on the guidance of filmmaker David Lynch, using the Transcendental Meditation techniques to dive into deep waters of consciousness and write.
“Horror films can be fairy tales about women’s empowerment. In a society designed to repress feminine desire, the Vampire is associated with lust and evil. As a director, I realized I had the control to tell the classic tale from a women’s perspective,” says Monica Demes.
Lilith’s Awakening is a psychological horror art film that tells the story of Lucy, a sexually repressed woman trapped in a loveless marriage and a dead-end job in a small Iowa town. The highlight of her existence comes at night, when she dreams of a mysterious and beautiful woman who haunts the woods outside her modest home. One night, a mechanic who works for her father forces himself on Lucy, awakening in her an uncontrollable dark force. When he makes her promise to meet him later at his hideaway in the woods, it may be the girl of her dreams – not his – who shows up for the fateful rendezvous.
