THE ALL-NIGHT ITALIAN SPLATTERFEST UPDATE!!!! AN INTERVIEW WITH CHUCK FRANCISCO OF FFFN...

As most of you may already know, the next few months are a horror fans favorite time of the year. There's Exhumed Film's 24 Hour Horrorthon, numerous horror cons across country, Halloween and all the festivities that go along leading up to it, the return of AMC's The Walking Dead and Fearfest, and of course every Splatterghetti addicted horror fan in the Philadelphia tri state area's  voyage to  their 35mm Mecca, better know as FFFN's ALL-NIGHT ITALIAN SPLATTERFEST at the one and only Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville PA.
Some of you may ask, "What's FFFN?". Well let me tell you. First Friday Fright Night is a ongoing  monthly screening of 35mm horror films on, you guessed it, the first Friday of every month. The FFFN committee is made up of a close group of friends who have a true passion for bringing fans the classics they've longed to  see or long had sitting on their 35mm bucket lists collecting dust. The committee, consisting of Chuck Francisco, Joel Rickenbach, Nick Lombardo, Brendan Carr and Bob Trate have brought us a LONG list of classics, too many to name, but heres a few: Shocker, A Nightmare On Elm Street Films, Friday The 13th Films, and a double feature of John Carpenter's Halloween I & II last October which we here at HS&M sponsored.
Their biggest FFFN horror event of the year is The All-Night Italian Splatterfest. This event consists of screening 5 Italian made horror films never before screened at the Colonial in one night of gorelicious greatness.  This year's line up is what dreams are made of and consists of  The Beyond, Creepers aka Phenomena, Dr Butcher M.D. aka Zombie Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox, and one secret film to be announced at the event. There's trailers, multiple prize giveaways, and of course there will be a print for the show.
I had the opportunity to interupt Chuck's busy regular sheduled programming, a really cool cat with a luxurious head of hair, and fired off  a handful of questions  that he was more than happy to answer on behalf of the rest of the crew and this is how it went.....

Danny Mozz
Other than your love for horror, what was the FFFN team's inspiration to specifically choose an all Italian horror marathon?
Chuck Francisco
As huge fans of Italian horror and its varying sub genres, it seemed like the perfect theme to center a marathon evening/morning on. There just so many directions to go in, and so much cinema to cover. Plus a lot of these films are rarely screened, so it's a chance to give horror fans more chances to cross items off their 35mm bucket lists.
Danny Mozz
Did you guys think it would be so well received and would have people, many like myself who trek across state lines to attend, eagerly looking forward to it each year?
Chuck Francisco
We definitely hoped it would go over this well, and kinda had the feeling that there would be a great response, but each year's fan enthusiasm is amazing (and very gratifying)
Danny Mozz
Is there  a certain process that FFFN  team goes through for choosing each year's lineup?
Chuck Francisco
There is, yeah. It's more like a road map than a process. We look to provide those nice heavy hitters to please the crowd, while still offering something rare, as well as something off beat. Last year's Killer Fish wouldn't seem, on the surface, to fit the line up, but it ended up working perfectly in that slot between slower films.
Danny Mozz
As a child I fondly remember watching Killer Fish with my dad so I must admit it was amazing seeing it on the big screen over 30 years later. Do you guys have an ultimate film that you would love to screen at the All-Night Italian Splatterfest, or has that happened for you already.
Chuck Francisco
Last year's Burial Ground is just a great one which I always love exposing unsuspecting people to. This year we've got The Beyond, which is my absolute favorite Fulci flick. I'd love to show Cemetery Man in the future. Killer Nun would also be amazing, but 35mm prints have been impossible to find (so far).
Danny Mozz
How many meatballs would an Italian woodchuck chuck if an Italian woodchuck could chuck meatballs?
Chuck Francisco
Two. They would be squished like oversized grapes by a jigsaw corpse when he steps back to collect his forgotten jacket. Freeze frame. Roll Credits.
Danny Mozz

HAHAHA great answer! So, where do you guys see the All-Night Italian Splatterfest in 5 years?
Chuck Francisco
Still going strong. It's a great community show, and a show piece for the horror crowd to get out and see the Colonial, if they don't often make it to the theatre for monthly First Friday Fright Nights (which they totally should!). We'll also be able to take advantage of the new theatre space that's currently being renovated (the Colonial Theatre now owns the adjacent building and is in the process of expanding).
Danny Mozz

With zombies, cannibals, killer animals, maniacs, giallo and many other subgenre of Italian Horror, what is your favorite?
Chuck Francisco
Zombies used to win hands down for me hands down, but we've been so over-saturated with them over the past decade, that it's probably Giallo now.
Danny Mozz
Yes sir, horror is definitely being annoyingly over saturated with zombies. One more question. If you had one sentence, and could use only 10 words to do it,   how would you  sell a first time visitor into attending without offering a free ticket or promise of prize?
Chuck Francisco
It's a sublimely grisly evening of blood spatteringly rare celluloid.
Danny Mozz
I couldn't have said it better myself. Chuck, thank you my friend, and on behalf of Horror Sci-Fi and More, we thank you for your time, and look forward to  seeing you on August 30th when we'll do a pickleback for old times sake.
