THE NAMES OF THE DIRECTORS CIRCLING LEATHERFACE???

No director has officially signed on Leatherface, the next installment in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series (yes, they’re using that title again), but there are two pairs of directors in the running for the job. They’re promising, too!

Alexandre Bustillo and Julian Maury are said to be the main contenders, says Bloody-Disgusting. Meanwhile, Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch are being eyed as well.

Bustillo and Maury are the French duo behind InsideLivide and Among the Living. There was a time they were being courted to tackle an entry in the Halloween franchise, but that fell apart. Widmyer and Kolsch, meanwhile, are generating some steam for their film festival hit Starry Eyes which is coming out next month from Dark Sky Films.

Leatherface comes to us from the same producing team behind Texas Chainsaw 3D. Seth M. Sherwood was hired to pen the script.

The story focuses on Leatherface’s teenage years and finds the boy on the run from a mental institution with a pack of other maniacs, so I’m told. Talk about a concept that further upsets the timeline and lineage!

Texas Chainsaw 3D opened in early 2013 and served as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The directors circling Leatherface are exciting. Hopefully they can steer the story into equally exciting territory.
