The role of Professor Miles was intended for Donald Pleasence. As well the role was also offered to Peter Cushing, but he refused to accept the part because of director Lucio Fulci's reputation for making gory horror-movies.
Dagmar Lassander was almost killed filming the fire scene when a breakaway wall fell on her.
Lucio Fulci has stated on numerous occasions that this film was actually directed as a favor to the producer, Giulio Sbarigia.
The film was given a limited release theatrically in the United States by World Northal in February 1984.
